Fako to lose millions due to unexecuted projects

The Chairperson for Public Investment Budget, PIB, for Fako Hon. Etombi Ikome Gladys says Fako Division risks losing hundred of millions for unexecuted projects for 2021 as credits of the contracts will be resent on November 15.


She made this revelation on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the Limbe I Council Hall Bota during the third quarter participatory divisional committee meeting with various stakeholders.

During the meeting it was disclosed that, out of 19 administrative projects awarded to Fako amounting to FCFA 308,360,000, 15 have been executed, two are ongoing while 2 are abandoned.

Physical execution rate stands at 73.33% as compared to 2020 which stood at 48.73%. Six projects above FCFA 5,000,000 three have been exe- cuted, and three unexecuted, while projects below FCFA 5 million, 12 have been executed and one is unexecuted.

The representative of the Divisional Delegate of MINEPAT Che Henrietta Ngumseh enlisted some projects Fako might lose credit if not executed before the deadline Construction of a classroom worth FCFA 17 million in Tiko, tarring of road from Mutengene junction to Plakeinin, FCFA 70 million, of gutters FCFA 45 million in Limbe II, municipal restaurant worth FCFA 20,000,000, electricity project FCFA 30,000,000 and road maintenance FCFA 27,000,000


While in Limbe II, construction of an amusement park of FCFA 40,000,000, three road projects FCFA 60,000,000 in Limbe I, road project FCFA 27,000,000 among others in Buea and Idenau.


On his part,the Divisional Delegate of MINMAP said Fako had a total of FCFA 2,48195131 for projects, he applauded Muyuka council for making significant progress. He lamented drawbacks as major obstacles for the smooth execution of projects. None publication of tenders, sales of files to specific contractors, difficulty to access to the project site among others.

The Chairperson, Hon. Etombi Gladys called on frank collaboration and synergy between the vote holders and the contractors. She invited the actors in the follow-up to fully be committed in his or her scope of competence and most especially contractors should engage payment at every step of execution.


“Remember contractors, there can not be any blocking of funds for work which has not been done. So please do your best to do the work and make your bills available in the right quarters.” Hon. Etombi Gladys echoed.

She added that, she is satisfied with the level of physical execution, which shows that stakeholders are doing what they are expected to do. She stressed on the fact that, the community will lose out for projects which has not been realised before the deadline, as the funds will be sent back to Yaounde, and it will be a long process to reinstate the funds back.


“All what we can do, is to encourage stakeholders who have not yet, done their jobs in their municipality to do everything possible to try and get the contractors to do their work. So before the deadline.” Hon Etombi Gladys emphasised.
