The Senior Divisional Officer for Fako, Engelbert Viang Mekala, has praised chiefs in Fako for massively turning out to celebrate their fatherland on the 53rd National Unity Day.

He gave the appraisal to the press shortly after the celebrations that took place at the Manga Williams Avenue, in Limbe.

The Fako Boss particularly thanked the Chiefs for praying to the forefathers who made everything to pass on successfully.

"I want to thank the traditional rulers they’re the ones who have prayed to our forefathers for them to make it possible for us to celebrate our National Day without any incident," Viang Mekala said.

Notably, despite threats, the Chiefs' massive attendance at the event was a huge success, although they declined to be interviewed.

The SDO equally hailed residents in Fako for their massive turnout, citing it as a true mark of harmony and the spirit of living together.

Viang Mekala commended the residents for overcoming fear and celebrating in peace, saying, "We have celebrated our National Unity with joy and a sense of patriotism."

He expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the event's success, noting that the large turnout was a testament to the population's desire for peace.

“The population came out massively, and the turnout is satisfactory. I think that's a message coming from Limbe that the population is happy to live in peace," he said.

The SDO emphasised the importance of collaboration between the population and defense and security forces for harmonious living, as prescribed by the Head of State.

"We need to stand firm behind the Head of State for unity, national integration, and living together so that we can have peace and prosperity," he added.

Medals were awarded to individuals who had contributed to the nation in various capacities, and prizes were given to schools that participated in sociocultural activities leading up to the National Day.
