Fako Division: Workers celebrate International Labour Day in pomp

Workers in Fako Division joined the globe on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the Manga Williams Avenue, Limbe to commemorate the 139th edition of the International Labour Day dubbed “Social Dialogue and Decent Work for a peaceful Cameroon”.
Speaking during the event, the representative of Trade Union, Ojong Pius Ebok said workers go for even more than 35 months without salary.
He equally decried that authorities are not holding meetings with workers in order to address their grievances.
Ojong Pius cited lack of communication between workers and employers, absence of retirement benefits, inappropriate behavior of employers among others.
He revealed that of recent they have been rampant theft of motor bikes, killings of motorcycle riders in Limbe municipality.
Ojong Pius acknowledged some strive made by some employers to their employees. He thanked the Government for paying me he salary arrears of the workers of CDC.
Before the march pass, some 381 workers received different medals gold and silver for their contributions to the Nation.
In his intervention, The Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Fako Division, Engelbert Viang Mekala emphasised on social dialogue as bridge between the workers an employees.
To him, social dialogue and decent work foster a peaceful Cameroon while promoting harmony relationship and living together in the country.
He opined that if workplace respect the measures being put in place by the Government, then there would be conclusive working environment and challenges will be curbed.
He assured CDC and Council workers that the Government of Cameroon will not fail to protect their right in terms of salary.
“We noticed some bad behaviors at the detriment of the employees, some of the employers are behaving like dictators, no respect of employees”,
“Taken into consideration unemployment rate in the country so they have no choice. Viang Mekala said.
Speaking to the press shortly after the march pass, the spokesperson for CAAWOTU Hans Bechu decried that their speeches for the past years have taken as mere slogan.
“The sociopolitical crisis that has been transformed into an armed conflict has become a permanent threat to our lives, job, property, we strongly recommend the institution of a platform of an ‘All Inclusive Dialogue’ to end this crisis and usher an atmosphere of sustainable peace” He addded.
The event brought together hundreds of workers from the seven Subdivision of Fako Division, religious leaders, senators, MPs, Chief among others.
