Enhancing sanitation services: New company to replace HYSACAM

Writer: Simon KallaSimon Kalla

This development comes after a communique was issued by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Courtes nee Ketcha Celestine, on Friday, March 28, 2025, to Yaounde City Mayor, Luc Messi Atangana to notify HYSACAM about the opening of a tender for a new company to restore cleanliness and sanitation in Yaounde.

Unfortunately, HYSACAM has been facing challenges in managing waste in Yaounde, despite being the leading private waste management company in Cameroon.

The company has secured a contract worth over CFA 45 billion to address the city's sanitation challenges, but its effectiveness has been hindered by factors such as population growth, lack of discipline among citizens, and insufficient financial resources.

Locals welcome THYCLOF's arrival, expecting relief from sanitation challenges. The introduction of THYCLOF is anticipated to bring significant improvements to Yaounde's sanitation situation.

As reported, THYCLOF has already commenced operations in the Yaoundé III district, utilizing a fleet of five waste collection vehicles, with plans to expand its services in the upcoming weeks.

Pundits say the Minister's prompt intervention will go a long way to alleviate the suffering of the population and restore a clean and healthy environment in Yaounde.
