The newly appointed Cameroon Hunger Chair Zero Mission and founder of Target Peace, Amy Banda is set to moderate the African Widows Summit TAWS2025 in Namibia.
The three-day event, scheduled to take place from September 3rd to 5th, 2025, at the Mövenpick Hotel in Namibia, is tagged "Widowhood in Africa: Building a Sustainable Culture."
The summit is organised by the Pan-African Widows Growth and Development Initiative (PAWGaDi), which was founded by Hope Nwakwesi, PhD. She also doubles as the president of PAWGaDi.
The aim of the summit is to address the multifaceted challenges faced by widows in Africa, including limited access to healthcare, property rights issues, economic exclusion, and social stigmatisation.
TAWS2025 will also address discriminatory practices and advocate for policies that provide widows with access to quality education, economic opportunities, and social support, enabling them to live with dignity and independence.
PAWGaDi's mission is to build a strong widows' union movement in Africa through inclusive policy, participation, and leadership, grant-making, capacity strengthening for widows, strategic alliance-building, and resource mobilisation.
The organisation's objectives aim to improve the status of women in widowhood across the continent through inclusive governance and actions, recognising the unique challenges faced by widows in Africa.
PAWGaDi is working towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society for widows in Africa, addressing the multifaceted challenges they face, and promoting their economic security and well-being.
Widows in Africa are often marginalised, ostracised, excluded, and denied their basic human rights. The summit's moderators include; Toun Okewale Soniaya, Mr. John Ikondja, Michael Madhimba, and Amy Banda.
The rapporteurs include; Omotara Aisida, Thato Lijane-Tlhomelang, Barbara Hachamba, Kaveri Kavari-Muuoja, and others.
The summit will be presided over by Her Excellency Naindi Netumbo Ndaitwah, the President of Namibia among other top dignitaries in Africa.
