The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Denis Miki Foundation (DMF), Emilia ‘Emily’ Epeti Miki, a FemWise-Africa member, has successfully participated in the Third African Union Reflection Forum on Unconstitutional Changes of Government, held in Accra, Ghana, from July 3-4, 2026, under the theme “Youth Inclusion for Africa’s Stability.”
Convened by the African Union, the Forum brought together government officials, policymakers, youth leaders, civil society organizations, academics, regional institutions, and development partners to examine practical approaches to strengthening constitutional governance and preventing unconstitutional changes of government through inclusive democratic processes.
Ms. Miki attended the Forum in her capacities as a Cameroonian civil society leader, Founder and CEO of the Denis Miki Foundation, and a member of the African Union’s Network of African Women in Conflict Prevention and Mediation (FemWise-Africa).
Through these roles, she joined fellow policymakers, peacebuilders, youth leaders, women leaders, and civil society representatives from across the continent in advancing dialogue on inclusive democratic governance, constitutionalism, conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and meaningful youth participation in decision-making.
As a Cameroonian participant and civil society leader, Ms. Miki joined delegates from across Africa in advancing dialogue on youth participation in governance, democratic resilience, peacebuilding, and public leadership.
The Forum highlighted the importance of positioning young people as active partners in policy development, democratic governance, conflict prevention, and sustainable peace.
Speaking during the Accra Forum, Ms. Miki highlighted the important role that partnerships between governments and civil society actors and organizations can play in promoting good governance and democracy.
Ms. Miki’s participation at #AccraForumIII as an African Union FemWise-Africa member reaffirms the African Union’s commitment to promoting youth leadership, women’s empowerment, democratic governance, civic engagement, and peacebuilding through strategic partnerships at the national, regional, and continental levels.
Speaking after the Forum, Ms. Miki stated: “Young Africans must not simply be represented — they must be trusted with leadership and decision-making responsibilities”,
“Building peaceful, democratic, and resilient societies requires governments and institutions to intentionally create opportunities for youth to shape policies that affect their future.”
The Value of FemWise-Africa: Advancing Peace*
Ms. Miki’s participation also reflects the important contribution of FemWise-Africa, the Network of African Women in Conflict Prevention and Mediation.
This initiative of the African Union was established to strengthen the role of women in conflict prevention, mediation, peace processes, and post-conflict reconstruction across Africa.
FemWise-Africa serves as a platform for experienced women mediators, peace practitioners, and leaders to support preventive diplomacy, dialogue, mediation, and inclusive peacebuilding efforts at the local, national, regional, and continental levels.
The network works closely with the African Union Peace and Security Architecture to ensure that women’s leadership and perspectives are effectively integrated into conflict prevention, governance, and sustainable peace initiatives.
As a FemWise-Africa member, Ms. Miki remains committed to promoting inclusive governance, amplifying the voices of women and young people in peace and political processes, and contributing to collaborative efforts that strengthen democratic institutions and foster lasting peace across Africa.
The Denis Miki Foundation commends the African Union for convening this important platform and welcomes the Forum’s continued emphasis on inclusive governance as a cornerstone for Africa’s peace, security, and sustainable development.
