Dr. Omam Esther Njomo, Executive Director of Reach Out Cameroon, has been honoured as a Champion of Social Cohesion and Resilience at Na We We Sports jamboree in Tiko.
The distinction was conferred on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Tiko Council Hall during the Na We We Sports Jamboree. The event was organised by Local Youth Corner Cameroon (LOYOC) in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education (MINJEC) and the United Nations.
The award recognises Dr Njomo's contribution to peacebuilding, humanitarian action and community resilience in Cameroon.
In her acceptance speech, Dr. Njomo said she received the honour with profound gratitude and deep emotion. She thanked LOYOC, MINJEC, the United Nations and all partners for the recognition.
"Awards do not mean that we have achieved peace, unity or social cohesion. Rather, they remind us of the work that remains and encourage us to continue building bridges, especially when circumstances make it difficult to carry on," she said.
Dr. Njomo dedicated the award to millions of Cameroonians, especially women, young people, displaced families and vulnerable communities who continue to seek support and protection.
She also paid tribute to the staff of Reach Out Cameroon, describing them as a strong and beautiful family whose courage and sacrifice made the organisation's impact possible.
She equally dedicated the award to her family, acknowledging the unseen burden her commitment to service has placed on them, and to all those who have stood by Reach Out Cameroon during a painful period when its doors remain closed.
"Standing tall does not mean that one has not been wounded. It means refusing to allow those wounds to destroy one's purpose," she noted.
According to Dr. Njomo, the recognition gives visibility and credibility to years of collective service and renews hope that fairness, dialogue and understanding will prevail.
She affirmed that she receives the award not as a destination but as a renewed call to serve, reaffirming her commitment to healing divisions, strengthening resilience and serving humanity with courage and compassion.
