The Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) of Wouri Division, Mvogo Sylyac Marie, has issued an order banning public manifestations, gatherings, marches, and other unauthorised public events in Wouri Division until after the swearing-in of the new President of Cameroon.
This information is contained in a press release issued on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. In the communique, the civil administrator cautioned the population to respect the decision.
“Any street demonstration is and remains prohibited, on the grounds of manifest and obvious attempts to disturb public order, until the swearing-in of the new President of the Republic”,
“To this end, any gathering and/or assembly, any march, any protest, and any other undeclared public demonstration will not be tolerated during this period throughout the territory of the Wouri Division.” Mvogo Sylyac said.
He added that any person violating this measure shall be liable to the penalties provided for by the regulations in force.
Mvogo Sylyac instructs the Divisional Officers of Wouri, the Commander of the Territorial Gendarmerie Group, and the Central Commissioners of the City of Douala to implement this decision.
This ban pundits say is preventive step to “maintain order”, amid political tension in Cameroon.
It should be noted that this ban comes barely hours after opposition candidate of the FNSC party Issa Tchiroma claimed victory of Sunday October 12 presidential election but official results are pending validation by the Constitutional Council planned for Monday, October 27, 2025.
