Today, Thursday, June 12, 2025, a tense and electric atmosphere prevailed in the Bonakouamouang neighborhood, in Douala, Littoral region, Cameroon  as traffic was partially paralyzed following a protest staged by commercial bike riders.

The protesters are against wearing branded jackets bearing the logo of a mobile network company, claiming that the Douala City Council is forcing them to wear the jackets and promote a contract they know nothing about.

According to eyewitnesses, on the morning of June 12, 2025, the Douala City Council, accompanied by law enforcement officers, began impounding commercial motorbikes that did not comply with the city's regulations.

The seizure of some bikes sparked frustration among the riders, who then intercepted and attacked their colleagues wearing the branded jackets, tearing them off. Despite the gendarmerie commander's attempts to restore calm, the protesters refused to listen.

The situation escalated as gendarmes and police reinforcements deployed teargas to disperse the protesting bikers, who vowed not to wear the branded jackets.

At the time of this report, traffic has been restored, and law enforcement officers remain on the ground to prevent any further tensions.
