Multiple reports indicate that Ewane Roland, the Divisional Officer of Idabato in the Ndian division, has been released by his kidnappers.
He regained freedom on March 17, 2025, at approximately 7:12 pm. According to reports, D.O. Ewane Roland spent 5 months and 17 days in captivity.
He has been transferred to the BIR camp in Jabane, where he will be taken to Buea Fako division. As a reminder, Ewane Roland and a councilor in Idabato were kidnapped on October 1, 2024.
Since then, his family, particularly his wife, has been sending distress calls, pleading with the government to intervene and rescue her husband from his abductors, who claimed to be pirates from neighboring Nigeria.
The kidnappers had demanded hundreds of millions of CFA francs, the release of their colleagues from Cameroonian prisons, and boats in exchange for the D.O.'s release.
It remains unclear whether the ransom was paid or if the other demands were met in exchange for Ewane Roland's freedom and equally if he freed by soldiers or released by his captors?
Kidnapped D.O’s wife overjoyed by husband’s release
An amateur video shared by NASO, an online portal, shows the wife of the released Idabato Divisional Officer celebrating her husband's liberation.
The video captures Agnes Ewane and other close family members and friends blowing vuvuzelas and rejoicing over the release of their loved one.
Agnes Ewane has been vocal about her husband's ordeal since his kidnapping, recounting the frightening conversations she had with the kidnappers during her media appearances.
She has also shared how her husband would often cry out in distress during their phone conversations.
