An Open Letter To Mr Paul Biya, President Of The Republic Of Cameroon
Subject: This Is Not The Cameroon You Promised Us In 1982 When You Took Over Power
His Excellency, President and Head of State, Paul Biya, calvary greetings to you and to your entire family. You are a blessed man, and I can authoritatively attest to that fact.
Looking at your age, the state of your health and after ruling the country for 43 years, with plans to continue ruling the country again at the age of 93 years old, my humble conclusion is that you are truly a blessed man.
40th year anniversary your party:
Throughout the national territory, members of your party who, in a larger scale are members of government are parading with bags of money here and there to corrupt weak minds, especially the vulnerable youths most of whom have no future in the Cameroon of today or even the Cameroon of tomorrow.
Most vulnerable Cameroonians, especially young men and women who will fall prey to these manipulations, will end up very drunk through the excess consumption of alcohol and wake up the next day with the realities of life steering at him or her straight at the face.
What are these realities?
Mr. President, a political party should serve as the vehicle for political education and not manipulations and empty propaganda. Instruct your collaborators to stop feeding people with lies and empty propaganda.
For a town like Kumba which is one of the oldest towns in Cameroon and particularly in the days of Southern Cameroons, there are no lights, no water, no good streets, no playgrounds, no companies to employ the wandering youths, no scholarship schemes to encourage skills development, no outstanding facilities, no stadium, no educational programs for the reconstruction of morals, etc etc...as we hope that the Anglophone crisis is gradually being abated, and South West region, Meme, and Kumba in particular being one of the most hit zones.
And in a day like this when even the most common amenity like electricity, water, is not available in most parts of the North West and South West, I don't think it is wisdom to be doing the kind of celebration of a 40th anniversary of your party which most Cameroonians believe it is being led by rogues and people who have hijacked the destinies of millions of cameroonians at home and abroad.
Your party should stop the agenda of manipulations!
After 40 years of existence, your party and your will be filling the inbox of quiet citizens with pictures of people who are a fundamental problem and manipulators of our society.
Your party should stop the manipulations!
It not a secret anymore to Cameroonians that each year your party uses state's money to celebrate now 40 years of existence.
It is alleged that at least 3 billion FCFA is spent during such celebrations while brandishing mediocre achievements such as the gutter culvert construction in a neighborhood of Kumba, a project that should be done by a student from a technical school in Kumba and not a trophy to be brandished as 40th year anniversary achievements of a government of a nation as rich as Cameroon.
All of such claims, if you go into the details, you will realize that billions have been spent for projects which has never been completed or were never realized at all...
A society where impunity thrives...
Mr. President, the Cameroon which you promised to be remembered as the one who brought democracy has become a Cameroon of anarchy, favoritism, corruption, impunity, and lawlessness.
People no longer respect the laws of a democratic society, public bullying of law abiding citizens by your close collaborators, sectarianism, moral deviance and very high cost of living is not what you promised Cameroonians.
Rigor and moralization was the what you promised Cameroonians, but unfortunately, today the reverse is the case. Looking at the traumatic living conditions of our people, it will be more suicidal for me not to draw your attention on some of these things.
Some of the very biting complaints from Cameroonians is the war which has been ongoing in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.
Statistics revealed that the war which began effectively in 2017 has claimed thousands lives amongst whom are women and children, and at least 3 million displaced persons both internally and externally.
Continuous demonstration of corruption...
Mr. President, as you continue to allow your party militants to use public funds to celebrate 40th anniversary of a glaring failure of your policy and vision for Cameroon since 1982, Cameroonians both at home and abroad are asking for a review and accountability of your 43 years of ruling the affairs of the nation.
Because, Cameroonians believe that even the form of the state has been fundamentally compromised, whereby a system has been created to serve individuals and not the entire people of Cameroon.
I truly believe that instead of spending billions of FCFA to provide mere food and alcohol to people in a day like this, should have better to organize seminars where you and your close collaborators make honest and conscious retrospection as well as introspection on how your leadership has been for the past 43 years.
Under your leadership for the past 43 years in power as president and 40 years of the existence your party, the youths have gone almost through hell, as thousands die every day in their attempt to cross the Mediterranean sea in search of a better life and environment in European countries, America and now Canada.
We can do better...Mr. President, the times are crucial, there is tension and pressure on Cameroon and Cameroonians from everywhere.
This 2025 presidential elections is going to be one that either makes Cameroon or mares Cameroon. The people are tired, and are suffocating morally, economically, socially, politically, especially the youths.
However, I believe that we can come out of this dark moments if you and your close collaborators have the will desire to put Cameroon and Cameroonians first on the list of the agenda. I believe that Cameroon can, and must be better and prosperous like any other nations of the world.
But in order for this to happen, the leadership structure of the country has to change, and Cameroonians are gazing at you attentively to see your next reactions even before the presidential elections slated for October, 2025.
We of the USDP believes that an inclusive dialogue, youthful active participation in policy making positions, transparency, accountability, good governance, selflessness in the leadership style and apparatus must take center stage as Cameroonians aspire to see real change during, and after this 2025 presidential election.
Therefore, Mr. President, I urge you to create the most enabling conditions for this presidential election and the possibility for a peaceful transition in Cameroon
The USDP party will stand with Cameroon and Cameroonians for a peaceful transition and we are ready to work with you so as to draw a more feasible agenda for this transition. Thank you, God bless you abundantly and may God bless a more United Republic of Cameroon
