The Minister of Housing and Urban Development (MINHDU), Célestine Ketcha Courtès, has announced the launch of the annual "Clean Cities" campaign nationwide tour, scheduled to kickoff immediately after the General Assembly on Urban Waste Management in Yaoundé on May 6-7.
This event, jointly organised by MINHDU and the Ministry of Decentralisation and Local Development (MINDDEVEL), coincides with the Clean Cities campaign.
This comes some months after the launch of the Clean City competition in January this year in Ngaoundere, with the aim of promoting urban hygiene.
It will serve as a platform for municipalities to exchange practical solutions aimed at enhancing urban cleanliness across the country.
"Together, let's mobilise to make our cities clean spaces, for the health and well-being of all," Celestine Ketcha said.
According to an article published by urban waste collection company HYSACAM, Ebolowa II's success was attributed to the population's effective education on good hygiene practices.
"Wait for Hysacam team to pass before taking out your trash," the article stated.
HYSACAM also highlighted the municipality's investment in urban infrastructure, including shelters and receptacles strategically placed at bus stations, markets, and schools.
"People store their waste there, which is collected and transported at regular intervals by HYSACAM to the waste treatment center," the article elaborated.
During a consultation held on April 29 by the Governor of the Central Region, Naseri Paul Bea, the municipality of Yaoundé V proposed engaging the municipal police to combat harmful practices such as indiscriminate waste disposal.
This is just one of the many potential solutions being considered.
