Chief Odirichukwu Ohaekelem rescues Limbe Old Market road

BY SIMON KALLA

With the persistent flood water causing traders of Limbe old market not to trade with ease, Chief Odirichukwu Ohaekelem Donatus has put smiles on their faces by maintaining the main road inside the market.

Speaking to KNews on Tuesday November 1, 2022 in an exclusive interview with Chief Odirichukwu Ohaekelem, he revealed that junction leading from Old Market to New Market via Malashia market was impassable since this year’s raining season.

have my business down old market, because of bad road and floods, cars, bikes cannot go to Malashia or New Market. Even on foot it is very difficult to pass through mostly the days it rains heavily”,

“When I complain to Limbe I Council they directed me to see City Council in charge of works. Reaching there, the works supervisor was not on seat.

I also complained to the Market Master but he said there’s no money,” Chief Odirichukwu Ohaekelem explained.

He added that he had to buy four trips of 20 tons sea wall to fill the portion from Njegele Bridge to after the hotel building. He also lamented that the street light which used to be along the road is not to be found again mostly from Anglican to Timber Shed junction.

“I am still looking for money to finish up the sea wall process because the area still needs to be filled. The City Council took part of my land to create the road leading from Old Market to New Market via Malashia market. I am paying my land tax including the area for the road,” Chief Odirichukwu Ohaekelem articulated.

He added that the City Council has to stop collecting rents from his land as he has already reported to the City Mayor about the rents collected by council authorities.

At press time, we are yet to get to the Limbe City Council authorities for their reaction.
