CDC Tiko Champions Senator Papinatu Fonderson’s Inter-service tournament

CDC Tiko are the winners of this year’s 2025 Senator Papinatu Fonderson’s 8th edition inter-service football tournament.
They were crowned champions after beating Tiko Taxi drivers 6:5 in penalties knockout during the finals yesterday, May 19, 2025 at Government Primary School Costain, Tiko.
Tiko Taxi riders opened score at about 2 minutes of play and kept on with the same pressure before recess. CDC Tiko managed to equalised through a header at about 39th minutes of play.
The match ended first half 1:1. After recess both teams kept mounting pressure and missing a lot of opportunities bringing the scoreline 1:1 at 90 minutes of play.
The competition was made up of 10 teams ended on Sunday May 19, 2025 at the Government School Upper Costain Field Tiko.
The event was attended by the Divisional Officer of Tiko Subdivision Voh Kawa Armstrong, Senator Lionel Papinatu Fonderson, Divisional service heads among others.
Speaking shortly after the finals, the sponsor of the tournament, Senator Lionel Papinatu Fonderson said the goal behind the tournament was to sensitise the population about the National Day and to take part in action billed up for the day.
“We all witnessed a very interesting matches through out the tournament. At this level it shows Tiko is the birth place of football in the South West Region.” Senator Papinatu Fonderson said.
The tournament which started in 2018, he opined is a unifying factor especially now that there are challenges to the unity of Cameroon.
“We always enjoy when we see our population come out so massively. We enjoyed the blend of camaraderie”,
“We enjoyed been with ourselves.” I want to thank the actors behind the organisation of this tournament. They did a great job.” Senator Papinatu Fonderson said.
The Divisional Officer of Tiko Subdivision, Voh Armstrong appreciated the sponsor of the tournament for organising the tournament in Tiko each year worth over FCFA 2 million.
Voh Armstrong pleaded with Senator Papinatu Fonderson not to relent his efforts to empower the youths in Tiko Subdivision “Don’t stop at this level. Tiko needs you to empower these young ones”. Voh Armstrong added.
He used the opportunity to invite other stakeholders in the Division to emulate the initiative of Sentor Fonderson and urged him to continue bringing people together in various aspects.
Enter prize award
Best coach category Betei Clovis ( CDC player), best player female category Nimbu Sophia, best referee Emma Nkete, best player male Chumfor Kingsley, best goalkeeper male Timbu Clinton.
The champions CDC Tiko went home with FCFA 200,000 plus medals, the runner-up Taxi drivers bagged home FCFA 100,000 medals. While in the female category Mongo women grabbed FCFA 100, 000 and runner-up FCFA 50,000.
