Bishops in Cameroon were expected to meet at the Unity Palace on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 to unanimously express their support for President Paul Biya's candidacy ahead of October 12 presidential election but they failed to honor the invitation.

According to report KNews gathered that the Minister of State, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh was scheduled to receive them at exactly 1pm, but waited in vain as they never showed up.

Meanwhile, several other groups have been received at the Unity Palace, where they pledged their support for President Biya.

It should be noted that, in recent months, a significant number of Catholic priests have openly called on presidential hopeful and incumbent Paul Biya to step down and allow a new generation to take over leadership.

On Monday, Monday August 11, Mgr Samuel Kleda said “our society is shaken by multiple ills that afflict all social strata,”

He outlined a national picture marked by chronic unemployment, corruption, social inequality, and deteriorating public trust.

Grégoire Owona responds to Mgr Samuel Kleda: “I will vote for Paul Biya”

The Deputy Secretary General of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), Minister Grégoire Owona as usual did not let the statement of Bishop Samuel Kleda go unmentioned. The religious leader considered that Cameroon "is sick" and that "the leaders seem to no longer know what to do”,

“Their stubbornness in managing the State is worrying... We have a duty to warn of the warning signs of Cameroon's slow death ," he predicted. In a post on Meta, Grégoire Owona.

“After reading and reflecting deeply on you, after having exchanged with many fellow citizens, I would first like to thank my Father-Bishop that you are and the great Archbishop who replaced Christian Cardinal Tumi of late memory”,

“You know the work that we have done together in your diocese. Strengthened by all this and the experience I have lived, I would like to tell you that I choose the path of wisdom, temperance and conviction: I will therefore vote for Paul Biya ," wrote Grégoire Owona.
