Cameroon is set to join other African nations today, Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at the 2nd edition of the United Nation (UN) Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism in Africa, to showcase Cameroon’s rich culinary heritage at Africa Gastronomy Tourism Forum.
The Minister of Tourism Minister Bello Bouba Maïgari announced on Monday, April 21, 2025.
The April 23-24 event, organised by UN Tourism, aims to position local cuisine as a driver of continental tourism growth.
“This forum provides a strategic platform to elevate gastronomy's role in tourism development," Maïgari said in a statement.
"It allows participants to address challenges and unlock opportunities to strengthen Africa's global tourism competitiveness through our diverse culinary traditions." added in a statement Maïgari
The Minister called for robust participation from Cameroonian tourism professionals and local government representatives attending the Tanzanian gathering.
UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili reinforced the message: "We anticipate productive exchanges with chefs, business leaders and policymakers to advance gastronomy tourism that generates sustainable development across African communities.
"The UN agency, which facilitated last year's inaugural forum in Zimbabwe, serves as a conduit for tourism investment. "Our role connects investors with destinations to build resilient, inclusive and sustainable tourism ecosystems," Pololikashvili noted.
Tanzania’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Pindi Hazara Chana, emphasised the country’s readiness.
“Tanzania is privileged to host the 2nd UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa, a significant event that showcases our rich culinary heritage and its vital contribution to sustainable tourism” Dr. Pindi Hazara said.
