Cameroon has eliminated the FCFA 150 fee for receiving baccalaureate and probatoire exam results via SMS, replacing it with a free digital application that offers offline access.
The application, launching followed Wednesday, April 9, 2025 agreement, allows users to check exam results online. While the app is accessible to subscribers of all networks, only MTN Cameroon customers can use it without incurring data charges.
Users must initially download the Ayoba app, requiring at least 65.6 MB of internet data. Once installed, they select the "Babillard 237" option and enter the candidate's registration number.
The app will then display "Admis" (Passed) or "Refusé" (Failed) along with relevant details. "We quickly realized that we needed to digitize this process. The infamous FCFA 150 charge sparked much debate”,
“Eliminating it is already a significant step forward for students, parents, and the education community," said Étienne Roger Minkoulou, the Head of the Cameroon Baccalaureate Office (OBC).
MTN Cameroon stated the agreement aligns with its efforts to reduce the digital divide and provide real-time access to exam results.
However, internet access remains a challenge in remote areas of Cameroon with limited network coverage.
Additionally, the app's smartphone-only functionality means students and parents without smartphones will need to purchase them.
