In a spirited debate surrounding the Ballon d'Or 2024 in Cameroon, Anglophone football fans have voiced their discontent with the renowned best goalkeeper's choice to speak in French.

The criticism shines a light on the broader linguistic divides within the country, stirring passionate discussions among supporters!

The winner of the 2024 Cameroon’s Ballon d’Or Best Goalkeeper, Idrissou Nfor Finia who hails from Donga-Mantung in the Northwest Region of Cameroon has been heavily criticized for speaking in french after receiving his award.

“Permit me speak in French because Cameroon is bilingual. This is the story of a child coming from nowhere, a child picked from holiday championships”,

“I come from a very difficult environment...I thank FECAFOOT President for realising this dream...I dedicate this to my mother who has become a star.. on her way to the farm, she no longer pays for the bike.

“Once it's known she's the mother of Nfor, she is carried for free." Nfor Finia spoke in French and translated in English.

Meanwhile the best player, Nchindo John Bosco who hails from Boyo division of the NWR, spoke in English.

Reports indicate that Anglophones who attended the event and those who watched it live felt discouraged that their son could not speak their language.

Pundits say although Cameroon is a bilingual country, many expected the goalkeeper of Colombe Sportive of the South Region to speak in English in honour of the people of the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.
