The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi says his ministry needs FCFA 42.1 billion to maintain unpaved roads in Cameroon this year, according to estimates by the Ministry of Public Works (MINTP)

According to Business in Cameroon the department has identified 19 projects, totaling 1,337 kilometers of roads, which are set to be worked on this year.

This comes as part of the overall effort to maintain the country’s vast network of 111,647 kilometers of unpaved roads. Among the 19 identified projects, some are already over 50% complete, while others are yet to commence.

According to Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, the Far North will benefit from the most projects, with five roads in need of maintenance there. In addition to these projects, the MINTP has earmarked CFA 106 billion for major repairs on four key routes, including Mora-Tchakamari in the Far North, Up Hill-Amour Mezam in the Northwest, Mbalmayo-Sangmelima in the Central-South, and the Lékié loop in the Central region.

Minister Emmanuel Nganou added that CFA 54 billion is allocated for 10 other maintenance projects across the nation.  He cited that in 2024 over 2,100 kilometers of unpaved roads were maintained.
