Cameroon loses Mayor of Diang after Njimom Council Mayor’s wife

In less than two weeks Cameroon loses two significant personalities in East Region. On Saturday, August 16, 2025, the Mayor for Njimom Council’s wife, Nchoutpouen Abiba died following a fatal road accident in Njimom in the East Region.
While her remains are still lying in the mortuary, news broke out on Saturday, August 23, 2025, that the Mayor of Diang Council in Lom-et-Djerem Division, in the Eastern region of Cameroon, had passed away.
The Mayor of Diang, Alain Wilfried Menganas, popularly known as "the tireless builder," died at the Yaoundé General Hospital, following an illness. His remains were transported to Bertou and deposited at the mortuary pending burial arrangements.
In a press release Mr. Bembell D'Ipack Olivier Cromwell, president of the Association of United Communes and Cities of Cameroon (CVUC-East), East branch expressed his since condolences to the family of the late Mayor of Diang and entire Council for the great loss.
“On behalf of the Municipal Movement of the East, I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Diang Council. May the Eternal be blessed.”
Elected in 2020 under the CPDM banner, he distinguished himself by his commitment to opposing land sales and his efforts to provide Diang with modern infrastructure. His passing leaves a huge void for his municipality and the Eastern region.
