In a significant development, the Cameroon Labour Movement (CALAMO), an alliance of trade union organisations and the Social Democratic Front (SDF), held a meeting in Yaoundé at the SDF Regional Secretariat today, Friday, May 9, 2025.
The gathering resulted in several key resolutions aimed at strengthening worker’s rights and promoting a united front to address socioeconomic challenges.
The trade unions affiliated with CALAMO have committed to expanding the movement to include more workers, thereby enhancing its national representativeness and impact.
Concrete proposals were put forward for developing a legislative framework that reflects the hopes and aspirations of Cameroonian workers, aligning with the labour-oriented ideology of the movement.
A strong and sovereign working group will be established to study ways to integrate workers' concerns in the era of new information and communication technologies (ICT).
Both parties joined their voices to make an appeal to the nation, urging citizens to massively register on electoral lists to ensure workers' voices are heard in upcoming political choices.
These developments could have significant implications for Cameroonian politics and labor relations. With the SDF's stated goal of conquering power, the alliance with trade unions may play a crucial role in shaping the country's future.
As the nation moves forward, it will be essential to monitor how these resolutions translate into action and impact the lives of Cameroonian workers.
The meeting was attended by Social Democratic Front National president, Joshua Osih and members of Cameroon Labour Movement (CALAMO) among others.
