Cameroon has strongly condemned Equatorial Guinea for deporting Cameroonian nationals, citing breaches of regional agreements on free movement within CEMAC and ECCAS.
Cameroon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lejeune Mbela Mbela on Friday, April 25, 2025 expressed his regret to the Equatorial Guinea Ambassador to Cameroon, Armando Kote Echuaca.
The Cameroonian government summoned the Equatorial Guinea ambassador, demanding explanations and urgent consular consultations.
The ambassador expressed regret and assured that he would relay Cameroon's concerns to his government, emphasising the traditionally friendly relations between the two nations.
The incident highlights the complexities of regional relations in Central Africa, where adherence to free movement protocols is crucial for economic integration.
Both countries are expected to engage in diplomatic efforts to find a mutually beneficial solution, underscoring the need for dialogue and cooperation to resolve disputes peacefully.
It should be noted that Cameroonians have been deported from Equatorial Guinea multiple times, with recent incidents sparking diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
KNews gathered the deportation occurred without prior notice to either the Cameroonian Embassy in Malabo or the consulate in Bata.
