For the first time in the history of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ) Limbe chapter, a lady has been elected president of the chapter. This followed an elective general assembly which held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Conference Hall of Eternity Gospel in Cite Sic, Bota Limbe.
Zita Aliah Awah secured a total of 26 votes, narrowly defeating the incumbent, Kuma Mbom Honore, who received 25 votes, while Raymond Njume Njikang got just nine votes.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the election, Zita Aliah expressed gratitude to her team members who supported her in winning the election.
"I'm just two years into CAMASEJ Limbe chapter, to be honest. I didn't really foresee myself winning the election, but my team members gave me the necessary support." Zita Aliah emphasised the need to bring change to CAMASEJ Limbe chapter through teamwork”,
"One thing I realised is that CAMASEJ Limbe chapter members want change. If we work together, we can achieve that change." Zita Aliah said.
Quizzed on her plan of action, Zita Aliah said she plans to produce badges for all members, upgrade the standards of journalists so they don't get paid peanuts, create monetary blogs for journalists, organize capacity workshops, and more.
The National President of CAMASEJ, Jude Viban, congratulated the new president and her team. He believes having a female leader will bring a different perspective to the chapter.
"The fact that we have a female president of the CAMASEJ Limbe chapter already shows there's going to be some difference and perspective in the way things will be done in Limbe."
Jude Viban urged the new executives to implement an open-door policy, listen to people, and hold firm to the association's rules and regulations. "I urged the new executives to work in synergy with the national executives. We all know Limbe is hosting the CAMASEJ Annual General Assembly in November 2025."
Hilary Asong Nkemasong Junior also intervened, urging the new executives to reconcile the warring factions. "We can't deny the fact that journalists in Limbe have been divided over the years into various camps for various reasons”,
“But I think she should be able to bring everyone on board because what brings us together is journalism."
Zita Aliah is the pioneer female president of the CAMASEJ Limbe chapter. She's a seasoned journalist, communicator, and actress with over 20 years of professional experience and holds a master's degree in communication and development studies.
The new executives of the CAMASEJ Limbe chapter consist of nine members who will lead the chapter for the next four years.
