Buea: HRM Albert Njie Mbonde is 5th monarch of Bokwaongo-Membea village

HRM Albert Njie Mbonde, Chef of Political Desk at Cameroon Radio and Television (CRTV), is new Chief of Bokwaongo-Membea village in Buea Subdivision, Fako Division, South West region, Cameroon.


He was installed into his function as the 5th monarch of the 3rd class chiefdom on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Pala Pala Field Bokwaongo by the Divisional Officer for Buea, Abba Abduraman.


The Divisional Officer (D.O) for Buea, called on HRM Albert Njie Mbonde to work in synergy with the elders, notables and traditional council in the design and implementation of developmental initiatives.


He equally affirmed that based on experience, exposure, network, personal qualities, HRM Albert Njie Mbonde is ready for the task ahead.

The DO also emphasized on the importance of cooperation in leadership.


The installation rituals marking his accession as the new traditional ruler of Bokwaongo-Membea, commenced with the placement of the monarch on the royal stool by Chief Mafany Njie Martin, president of the South West Conference.


The Paramount Chief of Buea, HRM Robert Esuka Endeley while placing his crown on his head emphasised that Bokwaongo despite been a 3rd class chiefdom, remains the pillar of Bakweri land.


The staff of authority was symbolically handed over to him by the president of Buea Chiefs, HRM Isaac Nganje, officially making the traditional ruler of Bokwaongo-Membea village.


Mola Njuma Thomas, a king maker of the Wondiva Clan family expects HRM Albert Njie Mbonde to foster unity, with the family of those who contested with him for the position of chief in Bokwaongo-Membea.


On his part, Emmanuel Motomby Mbome, president of Cameroon Athletics Federation, while applauding the down to earth nature of HRM Albert Njie Mbonde, he recounted that Bokwaongo is blessed to have such a leader.


In his intervention, Senator Mbella Moki Charles said is a momentous moment in their community due to the outpouring love extended to the him through the coronation ceremony, which is a testament to the fact that the leadership of Chief Albert has been ordained by God.


“He is a development centered personality who uses his connections and his ability to inspire people by way of rallying the community to build. And he is one who is committed to putting people first.” Senator Mbella Moki said.


He added that the hopes and expectations from Bokwaongo people are going to be realised through the wisdom their new chief.


“I stand prepared as a community leader, opinion leader, in assuring him that I will lend him the support he so badly needs at a time like this”. Senator Mbellla Moki stated.


The coronation ceremony wrapped up with HRM Albert Njie Mbonde, walking round the ceremonial ground accompanied by some chiefs greeting his subjects, family members, friends, colleagues amongst others.


It should be noted that HRM Njie Mbonde succeeds the late Chief Elkana Molua Messe, who passed away in late 2023. His selection as chief was made official on March 19, 2025, following consultative talks held by the village's kingmakers.


Speaking shortly after his coronation, Chief Njie Mbonde emphasised the need for unity and development within the community.


He pledged to prioritise key issues such as improving access to clean water, electricity, tackling the problem of illegal land sales among others.


Present at the event was elites of the Bwefua clan, Wondiva Clan, Wona Makunde Clan, Wona Molua Clan, Wonjia clan, family members, friends, colleagues rejoiced together with the Divisional officer of Buea, Abba Abduraman, Bishop Michael Bibi, Senator Mbella among others.


Brief Biography of HRM Albert Njie Mbonde


HRM Albert Njie Mbonde, born on July 1, 1980, in Bokwaongo. He attended Government School Likoko Membea where he obtained his First School leaving certificate.


He later enrolled in GBHS Limbe, from where he obtained His Ordinary Level and Advanced level certificate. He then gained admission into the university of Buea, in the department of political science.


HRM Albert Njie Mbonde, was recruited into the Cameroon Radio Television as an Editor in Chief of Crtv from 2015-2017.


From there he served as Sport Magazine Editor, CRTV National Station Political Desk Editor, Crtv National Radio Station 2018 till date. As a devoted hardworking journalist he also, acquired the position of Press Officer in charge of intermediate lions of Cameroon and FECAFOOT for 2011 to 2015.


His quest for knowledge and aspiration for the future enables him to be selected to attend some preferential courses in the following; World Bank course in investigative journalism, ICT and Multiskilling from the university of Grantham South Africa.
