The Bova Under-15 Football Tournament has, over the years, grown from a simple community football initiative into a powerful platform for youth development, education, nutrition advocacy, environmental awareness, and social transformation.
As we launch the 6th Edition of the tournament, we celebrate a journey of resilience, impact, and unwavering commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous community through sport.
For six consecutive years, the tournament has stood the test of time, bringing together young people from different backgrounds under one banner of friendship, discipline, teamwork, and healthy competition.
Beyond football, the tournament has consistently served as a platform for empowering young people with knowledge, values, and practical opportunities that contribute to their overall development.
One of the most remarkable achievements of the tournament has been the steady increase in the distribution of educational and awareness materials to participating children and community members.
Every year, hundreds of flyers, brochures, notebooks, pens, and sensitization materials are shared, helping to educate young people on issues ranging from education and human rights to environmental protection, nutrition and healthy living.
In recent years, the tournament has incorporated the “Good Nutrition Starts With Me” Initiative, implemented in partnership with AfriCAN CATALYZING ACTION FOR NUTRITION and community organizations.
Through this initiative, a local community kitchen is established during the tournament where nutritious local meals are prepared and served to players, supporters, parents, and community members. The initiative promotes the consumption of locally available nutritious foods while demonstrating practical ways of improving household nutrition and food security.
We strongly believe that sport is a powerful tool for positive change. Through football, young people learn discipline, leadership, teamwork, respect, tolerance, and responsibility.
The tournament also provides an opportunity to engage participants on the importance of education, encouraging them to remain committed to their studies and pursue productive futures.
The tournament further promotes key values such as environmental protection, children’s rights, human rights, community engagement, peacebuilding, unity in diversity, and responsible citizenship.
Through awareness sessions and community interactions, participants are encouraged to become ambassadors of positive change within their communities.
This year, the tournament seeks to expand its impact even further. In addition to football activities, the organizing committee has set an ambitious target of training more than 30 young girls in practical life and entrepreneurial skills.
These trainings will focus on the preparation of products such as Scotch Eggs and other income-generating skills, alongside soft skills development, leadership, self-confidence, communication, and personal development.
This initiative is aimed at empowering young girls with practical knowledge that can contribute to their economic independence and future success.
As we begin the 6th Edition under the theme “Playing for Community Development,” we reaffirm our commitment to using sport as a vehicle for education, nutrition advocacy, youth empowerment, community engagement, and sustainable development.
Together with our partners, supporters, volunteers, parents, and community leaders, we look forward to another successful edition that will continue to inspire young people and strengthen our community for generations to come.
