2022 Bota Land Cultural Festival: Organsing Chair sue for peace and unity

The Chairperson of the Bota Land Cultural Festival, Mbai Ephraim has sued peace, unity and for the population to work in synergy for development of the village.


He made this clarion call on Saturday December 17, 2022 during the closing ceremony of the seven edition of Bota Land Cultural Festival at the Bota Land village square. Tagged ”Maloko Ma Mboa” placed under the theme: Botaland indigenes say no to hate speech and mind poising, no to division in families.


The event which was celebrated under the banner of Wovia Clan Cultural and Development Association, WOCCUDA, brought together son and daughters of Bota Land and beyond, administrative, economic, religious and political officers among others.


Welcoming the popular and dignitaries, the Organising Committee Chairperson, Mbai Ephraim said he was elated to be in the mist of the population of Bota Land for turning out massively during the event, during the event which will go into the annals of the history of our indigenous community of Limbe Metropolis.


“We know you have abandoned other activities precious to you especially at this peak of the Festive Season. A big thank you for being with us. Here again we are for this annual Cultural jamboree,”


“Ladies and gentlemen, Botaland has passed through a lot of tussles for 12 good years due to excessive greed from a few individuals who want to acquire wealth at all cost through land grabbing and wanton sales to the detriment of the majority of the indigenes,”

“Be informed that our forefathers settled their differences at the level of the family, matters were never taken to court.” Mbai Ephraim explained.


He added that back memory lane, family meetings were regular and resolved all disputes. Today they think it is time once more to invite those who have been misled, to bury their differences and come to the negotiation table so that they can together reconcile their people and build a beloved village.


“This year’s celebration has been a huge success especially with the following innovations; Canoe Race juniors Cha Cha Dance Ambas Bay Dance Banga Bakundu IDP's dance group Talks on Covid-19 Pandemic and cholera epidemic Free and Voluntary screening of Diabetes, high blood Pressure, HIV Aids and other STD's during the festival and one week after the festival”. Mbai Ephraim said.


He however appreciated CPDM Botaland Subsection Fako IB, Limbe City Council, Limbe II Council, TELCAR Cocoa Company and FEDO Douala for their support towards the festival.


On his part, the Third Assistant Senior Divisional Officer, 3SDO for Fako Joel Biyele applauded the popular for the initiative and encouraged them to be peaceful and law abiding.


He equally told them to desist from gossiping, slander, blackmailing among others which might only bring division in the village. But they should think of developmental ideas to develop the village.


Speaking shortly after the festival, Mola Christ Iyok a native of Mokundage village said, “the people are united, the unity I saw here today, have never been the unity of Bota Land people in the past”.


He is optimistic that as time elapses, the spirit unity, pace and synergy will be improved. He opined that he will initiate same cultural festival in his village Mokundage as he believed that his Chief will abide to the call.


It should be noted that there were other activities such as; Brain trust, wrestling, swimming, dancing, among others with traditional musical performance by Mola Mongombe graced the event.
