The Mayor for Limbe I Council, Mbwaye Eposi Florence and 25 others over the weekend were decorated Notables by the Chief of Bokwoango village, HRM Njie Mbonde Albert.

The historic ceremony brought together administrative authorities, religious leaders and traditional rulers from across the subdivision, marking the official launch of an initiative aimed at strengthening unity and development in one of the pillars of the Bakweri clan.

The event, which was the first of its kind in the village, saw 26 individuals including women conferred with traditional titles and raised to the rank of pioneer Notables of Membea Bokwoango.

Addressing the newly installed Notables, the traditional ruler of the village, His Royal Majesty Albert Njie Mbonde, made a passionate call for collective effort, stressing that leadership and development can only be achieved through unity and shared responsibility.

“Help me so we can make Membea Bokwoango better because I cannot do it on my own,” the traditional ruler told the Notables, highlighting unity as a catalyst for sustainable development within the community.

HRM emphasised that recognition within the community should not be based solely on wealth but on dedication and commitment to the growth of the village.

“Recognition is not only for those who have money. Everyone who is committed to the village deserves to be celebrated because everyone has something to contribute,” he stated.

He identified access to water, education and electricity as key priorities and expressed confidence that collective action would make these basic amenities a reality.

HRM Albert Njie Mbonde reiterated that the time had come to bring everyone on board for the development of Membea-Bokwoango.

With an estimated population of between eight thousand and ten thousand inhabitants, he called on the population to embrace peaceful coexistence, strengthen community dialogue and uphold the spirit of living together as encouraged by the Head of State.

He urged inhabitants to live in harmony, respect the traditions of the land and actively participate in community initiatives to achieve shared goals.

The ceremony ended with the distribution of working tools to the quarter heads of Mokona to promote cleanliness in the area, an initiative that will be evaluated at the end of the year with awards for the best performing quarters.

Reacting shortly after the event, Mayor of Limbe One Council, Mbwaye Eposi Florence, who was entrusted with the responsibility of education in the village. She described education as a priority and called for collective efforts to improve learning conditions.

“We must ensure that our schools are comfortable and that every child has the opportunity to go to school, even if it means helping them obtain birth certificates,” she said.

As the dust settles on this maiden installation of Notables, the ceremony signals the beginning of a new era under the fifth monarch of Membea Bokwoango.

There is growing hope that through unity, peace and collective effort, the newly installed Notables will bring their diverse experiences and resources together to transform the village into a place everyone can proudly call home.

Among the personalities honoured was the Governor of the West Region, His Excellency Awa Fonka Augustine, who described the title as an opportunity to give back to the community that shaped his early life.

“This is my environment and it is an honour given to me by the chief. I will contribute to the development of the village that played a big role in my childhood,” he said.
