The Mayor of Limbe III Council and traditional rulers of Bimbia Chiefdom say all what they need is collective consultations.
He made this revelation on Wednesday January 15, 2025 during an exclusive interview with KNews in Limbe III chamber in Chop Farm, Bimbia.
“At the meeting we were advised to go and start a fresh consultations, because you can’t do such a huge project, without consultations.”
“All what the people of Limbe III are asking is inclusive consultations, let be part of it, let’s know what’s happening.” Mayor Nseke Dibotti said.
It should be noted that the visit of the Minister of Arts and Culture, Bidoung Mkpatt which was scheduled for Tuesday January 14, 2025 to sign a memorandum of understanding between Gilgal Tower company and the Ministry of Arts and Culture was put on hold as local authorities of Limbe III Subdivision in Bimbia say, they were taken by surprise that the Government was about signing a Public partnership agreement with the CEO of Gilgal Tower Eric Igwacho to manage the Bimbia Slave Trade village site.
Speaking during a peaceful protest march in Limbe, natives of Bimbia carried out placards with messages such as; We say “No to oppression, NO selling of the Bimbia Slave Trade Center, Don’t temper with the Bimbia Slave Trade village among others.
The president of Limbe Chief Conference, HRH Chief, Epupa Samuel Ekum questioned that could this same thing happen in other areas. “If not of the peace-loving attitude of a Bimbia man, it could have been bloodshed if it was other areas.”
On his part, the chairman of youth committee of the Royal Chiefdom of Limbe and indigene of Bimbia village, Henry Njalla Quan Jr. said such a historic touristic site can not be handed to a third party but should be managed by the community or Limbe III Council, but if the Government deemed it necessary for economic reasons to hand it to a third party, they are Sons and Daughters of Bimbia, Limbe and Fako who are equipped and experienced to run the place.
The demonstrators later on marched along the stretch of road from the Paramount Chief Place at Mbonjo to the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Fako to hand him their resolutions but were told by the SDO, Viang Mekala to delegate persons to drop the resolutions.
In his intervention, the CEO of Gilgal Tower, Eric Igwacho says his vision is to make Bimbia Slave Trade village a touristic magnet in Africa.
He made this revelation on Tuesday January 14, 2025 during a press conference he organized at Gilgal Tower, at New Town Limbe.
“The Bimbia Slave Trade village is something, I’m passionate about because my vision is that everybody will benefit from it, Bimbia community, Limbe and the county. So, I’m let by my sport to do those things.”
“I think there’s a divine intervention in my life, if I carry on these things you’ll see the results way after. So the Bimbia Slave Trade village is not for my personal benefit it will create job opportunities for the young people” Eric Igwacho explained.
Quizzed if he wants to temper with the Slave Trade village, he said the agreement is a Public partnership 10 years renewable that the Government will supersede the partnership through out.
Eric Igwacho is optimistic that he can not quit despite of the peaceful protest of Bimbia natives protesting that Government should yield to their demand.
He explained admitted his fault for not informing the local authorities about the project due to the limited time frame of the occasion but was planning to meet them before the outcry of the people burst out.
Eric Igwacho told the press that he is Notable of Bonagombe village and so, he is one of their and can not be rejected to carry on his developmental project.
It should be noted that, over 200 Bakweri youths and non-Bakweri youths in Limbe also marched with placards along the stretch of road to Gilgal Tower Company in New Town, Limbe with messages such as; “We the youths of Limbe welcome investors in our city, the youths of Limbe are proud of Gilgal Tower company” among others.
Speaking on behalf of his peers YCPDM president for Limbe II Subdivision, Ndumbe James said they were misinformed about the concept of Gilgal Tower development drive in Bimbia Slave Trade village.
He however threw his weight behind him and told him they are ready any time their presence are needed to support him and urged other investors to emulate him.
