The people of Bimbia, known for their resilience and determination, are presently confronted with a series of challenges.
Amidst these challenges, HRM Epupa Samuel Ekum, one of the oldest chief in Fako Division, has penned a poignant letter to Engelbert Viang Mekala, the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Fako.
In the letter, he voices the concerns of his people. "We are being undermined, and possibly have become the orphans of Fako Division, where local administrators (D.Os) incite hatred among the local population for the achievement of their personal goals, and where vendetta has become the order of the day," Chief Epupa stated.
He further wrote, "Sir, we write to let you know that all is not well in Limbe III, and we implore you to pay keen interest in the activities of Limbe III, especially given our unwavering support for the regime of President Paul Biya and his ideals." Chief Epupa explained that the people of Bimbia recently came together to form a development association for the municipality, similar to others across the region.
However, their efforts were met with a ban. He noted that the chiefs and elites of Bimbia mandated Mr. Njalla Quan Jr. to lead the association, adding, "For obvious reasons, the idea of this association was not his. To treat him as a scapegoat is, to say the least, discouraging and suggests that the Bimbia people do not encourage living together."
He also expressed concern over recent reports labeling Bimbia people as xenophobic: "Recently, some bloggers and papers have described the Bimbia people as xenophobic, all before the watchful eyes of the administration”,
“Is it a crime for the Bimbia people to have a developmental association, as is found everywhere?"
The Chief’s plea to the SDO was clear: guide their association to legality and facilitate dialogue between the people and the administration.
