BEAC’s new coins circulation begins April 2025

The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) is set to release new coins early April, but the exact date is not yet confirmed.


This is contained in a communique KNews procure a copy signed by the Governor of BEAC, Yvon Sana Bangui issued recently.


The new coins aim to alleviate the near-permanent shortage caused by the diversion of coins to an Asian country for their metal value. 


The new coins will feature innovations such as larger sizes, new denominations, including a 200 CFA coin, and alloys made from less noble materials to prevent coin trafficking.

The BEAC aims to address the persistent shortage of coins in the CEMAC regions.


BEAC denounces fake coins circulating on social media space


On March 6, 2025 BEAC issued a warning to the public regarding the circulation of fake photos and videos of new coins on social media platforms. 


The BEAC emphasizes that it is not the source of these false informations and strongly condemns this gross manipulation, which aims to deceive the population and spread confusion. 


The Central African Bank urged the public to exercise extreme caution and only rely on official communication channels for announcements related to the issuance of new coins. 


The BEAC's warning serves as a reminder to be vigilant when sharing or consuming information on social media, especially when it comes to sensitive topics like currency.

This decision was adopted on December 18, 2024 during the Board of Directors’ meeting of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), held in Libreville, Gabon.


At the end of the Board of Directors’ meeting of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) held on December 18 in Libreville, Gabon, key decisions were adopted.


Among other things, the putting into circulation of the new Beac coins.

The Central Bank, this time, opted for increasing the size of all coins, including those of 25, 50, 100 and 500 FCFA  rather thank the size in circulation that is 10, 5, 2 and 1 FCFA.


The old coins will, however, retain their legal tender status and remain in circulation. According to information from EcoMatin, BEAC does not demonetise coins as is the case for banknotes.
