Two military officers have been sentenced to five years in prison by the Bamenda military tribunal for selling ammunition to separatist fighters, specifically Amba fighters.
This landmark judgment was handed down on March 20, 2025, after the defense counsel pleaded for mercy, citing Sections 90 and 91 of the Penal Code.
The convicted officers were found guilty of breaching the Ministry of Defence code of conduct by exchanging ammunition with armed men amidst the ongoing armed conflict.
This incident is not isolated, as it marks another instance of security personnel being sentenced for similar offenses.
The convicts have a 10-day window to appeal the ruling if they are dissatisfied with the verdict. This sentence serves as a warning to those compromising national security and engaging in illicit activities.
The Bamenda military tribunal's decision underscores the commitment to upholding the law and ensuring accountability within the military ranks.
