Batoke Transporters hail traditional council for opening farm to market road

BY BEATRICE MOKAM

Transporters in Batoke village have expressed joy to the village traditionnel council for embarking in the digging of farm to market roads. The almost impossible farm to market roads situation in Batoke had been their major cry over the year.

The more than 7 kilometres road project which stretches from the Batoke market to the Etome forest below the foot of mount Cameroon in the quarter popular known as "German” quarter was launched on Tuesday January 25, 2022 by his royal majesty chief Otto Molive Molungo in the presence of commercial motorbike riders.

While addressing villagers and farmers in the farm to market road area, the chiefs of Batoke appealed to them to continue to support the village traditional councils to ensure that other projects are realised yearly.

The farm to market road if completed will encourage farmers to reduce the cost of their food stuffs, encouraging buyers from far and near to continue promoting the economy of limbe two Subdivision.

HRH Otto Molive said; “I think today is one of the greatest days in Batoke they are expanding their village in terms of road network because I know where a road passes, development follows”,

“We thank the population who are collaborating with us. It is common to get complains from all angles during such projects. People usually complain about destruction of crops, houses and others but in this case we haven't registered any. That shows that the population is collaborating with us”

He added that in the days ahead they are going to add the roads, he opined that farmers sometimes do not get their real profit because when they havest, it is difficult for them to take the items to the market. HRH Otto Molive is optimistic that with these roads they will ease the stress of farmers in carrying their farm produce to the market. He is also hopeful that prices of food items will drop, and inhabitants will have better living conditions.

“This road still needs more work to be done on it. The bulldozer has just opened the road and we may need a grader to smoothen it and create run ways to make it stand the rainy season."

“So we are appealing to the government through the local councils and the ministry in charge of roads to come to our aid” HRH Otto Molive said.

On his part, the chairman of the road project commission revealed that adequate information went out to inform the community before the grader was engaged. He said with the project Batoke will never be the same again.
