The ongoing legal battle between renowned human rights lawyer Barrister Alice Nkom and the people of Cameroon has been adjourned to Monday, October 6, 2025, following a brief hearing at the Bonanjo Court of First Instance on Tuesday 5,
The postponement was due to the absence of the Wouri Senior Divisional Officer, Sylyac Marie Mvogo, whose presence is deemed essential for the proceedings.
This marks the third hearing in the sensitive case, which is being closely followed by human rights advocates. The postponement was due to the absence of the Wouri Senior Divisional Officer, Sylyac Marie Mvogo, whose presence is crucial for the proceedings.
According to defense lawyer Charlotte Tchakounté, the court has ruled out further postponements, and the senior divisional officer will have to appear to justify the charges brought against the defendants.
Alice Nkom, chair of Redhac's board of directors, welcomed the decision, believing that her legal team's arguments have revealed weaknesses in the public prosecutor's case.
It should be noted that REDHAC was suspended in December 2024 by Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji, citing "illicit financing" and other allegations.
The organisation's offices were sealed for three months, a move Nkom described as "arbitrary." In response, the human rights lawyer broke the seals, leading to a series of administrative and judicial summonses against her.
