Bamenda: Security forces arrest lecturer for allegedly raping minors

A shocking case of alleged child rape has shaken the community in Bamenda, North West Region of Cameroon.


A 57-year-old whose name KNews got as Wirba Julius, an economics lecturer at the University of Bamenda, was arrested for allegedly raping seven minors aged 2-13 years old.


According to Commissioner Emmanuel Mbock of the Bamenda Central Police, Wirba was arrested after the parents of the victims filed a complaint. Initially, Wirba accepted responsibility for the crime, but later claimed innocence.


The accused was presented to the press on Friday, February 28, 2025, after being questioned by the police. The community is demanding justice for the victims, with many calling for swift action against the accused.


The case has sparked widespread outrage, with concerns raised about the safety and well-being of children in the community.


The police are continuing their investigation, and the accused is expected to face trial soon.
