Reports circulating online claim that controversial Equatorial Guinean figure Baltasar Ebang Engonga, popularly known online as “Egonga,” has been released after completing a prison sentence though the claim is already stirring confusion and debate.
Social media has been buzzing following the alleged release of Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the former senior Equatorial Guinean official who went globally viral in 2024 over a massive sexual scandal.
Engonga went viral in late 2024 after his sex tapes went viral on social media, which later led to allegations of financial misconduct of a state-owned company under the Ministry of Finance. It was alleged that he collected 910 million francs, which he reportedly spent on parties, women and a luxurious lifestyle.
This triggered political embarrassment and eventually led to his removal from office and deeper investigations. He was convicted and, according to reports, has now been released after serving a two-year jail term in Equatorial Guinea.
Social media users have taken to social media to give their two cents on the matter. Some are happy for his release, hailing him “the king” or “legend”, while some think that he deserves more jail time for his actions, and his sentence is too short for the atrocities he has committed.
Though there has been no official confirmation that he has been released, social media users will be waiting for him to make an appearance in subsequent time.
