Chief Charles Constant Pokam Noussi of Baloum and eight other people have been charged and remanded in custody at Dschang Central Prison over alleged murder of two young men in the West Region.
The chief and his co-defendants appeared in court on Thursday, June 25, 2026. According to counsel for the Diffo family, they face charges of murder, torture, complicity in murder and torture, and failure to possess a national identity card. “No human being, even one condemned to death by law, should suffer such a fate,” the lawyer said.
What happened in Baloum
At the center of the case are Bostel Kemta and Steve Achille Diffo Sijamo, both in their thirties. The two men were abducted, tortured, and burned alive on June 5, 2026 in Baloum by a group of local residents, allegedly in the presence of Chief Pokam Noussi. Implicated in the tragedy, the village head surrendered to authorities on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Family files complaints
The victims’ family lodged two complaints: one with the Penka-Miche Gendarmerie Brigade, which has jurisdiction over Baloum, and a second with the public prosecutor. The prosecutor said he was not initially informed of the serious allegations.
