Activities of Aura Cameroun, a company specialised in the treatment of water for human consumption, industrial use, and hospitals, have been suspended.

The suspension takes effect on May 6, 2025, as per a decision signed by the Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, on the same day.

“As of the date of signature of this decision, the activities of the company named Aura Cameroun are suspended as a precautionary measure, for the production and commercialisation of water unfit for consumption," the ministerial document stated.

This decision follows a customer's complaint alleging contamination of Aura water. On March 17, 2025, Philippe Camille Akoa, the Director General of the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance (FEICOM), ordered the "immediate cessation" of distribution and the removal of Aura water from FEICOM’s headquarters.

According to the Director General, Philippe Camille Akoa, tests conducted by the Pasteur Center as part of an environmental audit of FEICOM detected the presence of fecal matter in the water supplied by Aura Cameroon.

In a letter dated March 19, 2025, addressed to FEICOM’s Director General, Aura Cameroun expressed reservations regarding the Pasteur Center's analysis results.

The company requested detailed information on FEICOM’s audit methodology, the samples taken, and the Pasteur Center's complete analysis findings.

“The nature of the alleged contamination, namely the presence of fecal matter, deeply concerns us”,

“Although we are duly and honestly aware that zero risk does not exist, such contamination is extremely rare and serious," Aura Cameroun emphasised in its correspondence.

According to a source who preferred not to be named said  following FEICOM’s complaint, other clients of Aura reportedly commissioned analyses of the water supplied by the company, yielding similar results.
