AU, Chad and others congratulate Biya on his re-election

The African Union has congratulated President Paul Biya on his re-election and urged him to prioritise inclusive national dialogue and consultation with political stakeholders.
This is contained in a communique dated, October 28, 2025, endorsed by the chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
“The Chairperson of the African Union Commission congratulates H.E. President Paul Biya on re-election and calls for national dialogue in the Republic of Cameroon” H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said.
He extended his congratulations to His Excellency Paul Biya on his victory, as the re-elected President of the Republic of Cameroon.
However, the Chairperson is gravely concerned about the reported violence, repression, and arrests of protesters and political actors in connection with the election results.
The AU Chairperson calls on all institutional and political actors to exercise restraint and work towards the preservation of social cohesion, peace, and stability in Cameroon.
He urges the Cameroonian authorities to accord top priority to inclusive national dialogue and consultation with all political stakeholders in order to reach consensus in the spirit of national unity, peace, and collective security.
H.E. Mahmoud Ali reaffirms African Union's commitment to continue to support the people of Cameroon in the quest to consolidate democracy, social justice, and the rule of law.

“Following the official proclamation of the final results of the presidential election held in the sister and neighboring Republic of Cameroon, I extend, on behalf of the Chadian people and in my own name, my warmest congratulations to His Excellency Mr. Paul Biya, President of the Republic of Cameroon, on his re-election to the highest office,”
“I wish him every success in carrying out his high responsibilities, and to the brotherly people of Cameroon, I extend my best wishes for peace, stability, and prosperity”,
“On this occasion, Chad reaffirms its strong commitment to continuing and strengthening the bonds of friendship, cooperation, and good neighborliness that unite our two countries, in the mutual interest of our peoples.” Mahamat Idriss Déby said.
Enter UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres call
The Secretary-General of United Nation, Antonio Guterres on Tuesday, October 28, urged all political stakeholders and their supporters in Cameroon to exercise restraint, reject violence and refrain from any inflammatory rhetoric and hate speech.
He regretted the loss of life and injuries among both protesters and security forces and extends his condolences to the families of the victims.
Antonio Guterres called on authorities to ensure a safe and secure environment where the rights of all citizens are protected and to ensure due process for anyone arrested.
EU expresses concern over violence in Cameroon
On Tuesday October 28, the EU expressed deep concern over the violent suppression of protests that erupted across some towns in Cameroon
following the announcement of the presidential election results, calling on the authorities to release all those arbitrarily detained since the demonstrations began.
In a press statement, EU Spokesperson, Anouar El Anouni said that the violence accompanying President Paul Biya's victory for an eighth term in office raised concerns, noting that at least four people were shot dead during clashes that broke out in several Cameroonian cities following the result announcement on October 27.
The statement affirmed that the EU, as a long-standing partner of Cameroon, "stresses the importance of ensuring the safety and physical integrity of all political actors in this process,"
