BY SIMON NDIVE KALLA

Asangwi Fontoh John is the new President of Kumba Government Technical Ex Students Association, KUGTEXSA. He emerged champion during an enlarged Annual General Assembly, AGM, held in Limbe on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

Asangwi Fontoh of the 1978 batch of G.T.H.S Kumba from Bamenda chapter did building and construction, now a retired civil engineer from the ministry of public works.

Addressing his peers as representative of the National Coordinator, before the election exercise, Asangwi Fontoh said the school was created in 1974 by a presidential decree with main objectives to bring together all ex-students' from GTC/GTHS Kumba (Kang Barombi) to re-enforce love and unity amongst themselves by socialising once more for the social, economic and moral development of every member.

He added that the association founded on October 2, 2012 but is still to be vulgarised to the knowing and understanding of all the former students. The national bureau went into slumber after the death of the pioneer national president, late Difang A. Peter of Limbe chapter in 2013. Consequentially, most of the chapter that existed by then also followed suit but for Douala and Kumba that had been waxing strong up till date.

“We should set values that will foster continuing fellowship, and support among ourselves here in the country and in the diaspora, and of course actively support our former school in its continuing educational mission by encouraging and promoting academic excellence and meritocracy as well as instilling discipline in our former school milieu.” Asangwi Fontoh said.

Speaking to the press shortly after emerging victorious during his election, President Asangwi Fontoh said; I am so elated to be voted the President of KUGTEXSA, it is a school that is turning 50 years in 2024 but our association has not been waxing strong, henceforth we need to revamp the association.

Quizzed on his plan of action, he said as of now there are six chapters in Cameroon, six in USA, one in Germany and one in UK. He stressed on the fact that his objectives are to bring the thousands of KUGTEXSA worldwide on board.

He affirmed the shortcomings of technical education especially in the English subsystem of education. “One of our goals is to create awareness of the importance of technical education among the youths that are growing up to initiate them to join the technical field”. Asangwi Fontoh added.

The following members are the exco; President Asangwi Fontoh, Vice President Epey John Secretary General Egbe Elizabeth, Vice Secretary General Misama Vincent, Financial Secretary Ebu Cecilia, Treasurer Madam Amabo, PRO Kisop Jerry and Social Ngonge Stephen.
