The acting president of Akwaya Students Union, Orzende Hans Iyal says for Non-State armed Groups (NSAGs) in Akwaya to drop their arms, there is a need for them to be reintegrated into the society for a return to normalcy,
“The challenges remain the fear of being arrested after dropping their arms by the Government and the unavailability of what can keep them busy or sustenance.” Orzende Hans Iyal added.
He made this statement on Thursday February 16, 2023 in Limbe, during the conferment of a traditional title to the Deputy General Manager ( DGM) of PAMOL, Manghe Donatus Asu as Otu Otiekpan I of Akwaya meaning the Chief Tiger of Akwaya.
Speaking during the event, the President of Akwaya traditional council Otu Ojong Asu Jean said the Chiefs and elites of Akwaya in an enlarged meeting at the behest of the moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon recommended that the Deputy General manager of Pamol Manghe Donatus Asu should be conferred with a traditional title.
"Some may ask, why Donatus Asu Manghe? The answer is easy. Since his appointment October, 2020, we have seen in him, the desire, anxiety and the will of a young man, to address the problems of Akwaya in an objective and analytical mind",
"He has made efforts to bring the people of Akwaya together through meetings and contributions in ensuring that Akwaya is united, strong and forward looking with a view to achieving those objectives that can bring harmony and development." Otu Ojong explained.
He added that the Royal Fathers of Akwaya have seen in Manghe Donatus as the aura of a bulldozer, a go- getter, a political and economic hunting dog.
Speaking shortly after his confement
Pamol's Deputy General Manager (DGM) said; "I feel very honored and indebted to the whole Akwaya people.",
"Recognition is not an easy thing. A lot of people have been here and out. I think that the people like me and they want me to go ahead and do a few things for the people at my power", Manghe Donatus said.
He added that he is empowered and happy to work with everybody "Today marks the new beginning for the Akwaya Subdivision." Manghe Donatus said.
“Cognizance of the obvious socio-economic backwardness of our subdivision, combined with the devastating impacts of the on-going crisis, we the Akwaya youths within and out of Akwaya stand in stiff competition with our counterparts from stronger socio-economic backgrounds; we face serious challenges to barely survive, in terms of financing our education, accommodation, food and other basic necessities”,
“We believe if these can be solved, it will be a step towards a self-developing Akwaya subdivision because if we are empowered economically, we can plough back the effects in our homeland, support other youths, assist local community projects among other things.” Orzende Hans explained.

He added that some youths had struggled and attained academic qualifications that can get jobs, from Advanced level, Bachelor’s degrees , Masters and even Ph.D, but they cannot find jobs mostly because of tribalistic tendencies among the Akwaya person, the inability to create jobs and employment for themselves.
“Our Dear Leaders and Elites, we the youths of Akwaya need your mentorship, fatherly direction, financial and moral support to empower us morally, academically, politically, and socio-economically”,
“If we are politically empowered, we will by so doing have significant representations in government in the coming years and support the state to foster development of our great Subdivision, Akwaya”. Orzende Hans said.
Empowering Akwaya youths is preparing Akwaya for rapid development.
Orzende Hans Added that if Akwaya youths are academically empowered, most of them can be employed back at home with the local government Akwaya Council , for instance to serve our people and strategize rapid development plans for Akwaya.
“A necessity for the Subdivision, Akwaya; a right to us the Youths, and an obligation on you our Elites to empower us now so we can do same in the nearest future”,
“Challenging enough is the fact that there is no respect of leaders and elders of the Subdivision; the youths are not ready to be servants, they want quick ways to make life easy and fast, they neglect occasions that will make them meet their parents and know them",
"The ability to visit and identify themselves with their parents and elders out of home, constant discrimination and favouristim based on court areas, inheriting enmity, thus causing the many setbacks we have today" Orzende Hans lamented.
He explained that, the youths in Akwaya remain on the centre of atrocities and heinous crimes that had been plaguing the subdivision within the recent years.
“These atrocities have resulted to loss of lives, destruction of properties and displacement of thousands of Akwaya people all over the National territory and Abroad. The “Amba” remains a threat to the Akwaya person, as home is not save for everyone except their loyalists.” Orzende Hans said.
He also said that the situation is largely caused by ignorance of the youths to have sacrificed their sovereignty to outsiders who dictate what happens in the subdivision, thus putting our people at risk and making the environment not conducive for development.
“Our dear parents and Leaders, a guarantee of total freedom and availability of jobs, will be a very good start to ensure disarming the redeemable “Amba” for reintegration into the society",
“Leaders and parents do more to improving the youths because we believe that it is a necessity for the growth and development of our great Subdivision. Orzende Hans said.
While praying for peace and serenity to return , he thanked leaders for initiating the peace process that will bring security back at home so the youths can be useful instruments of developing Akwaya.
