The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, says the road project between Dschang and Santchou in the West region is at an advanced stage.

He made this statement in a communique signed on Tuesday February 18, 2025. “MINTP is working to restore connectivity between Dschang and Santchou in the West region, closed since landslides struck the Dschang cliff in November 2024. The government plans to create an entirely new route,”

“Topographic surveys, as well as geotechnical, hydrological, and hydraulic studies conducted with support from the National Civil Engineering Laboratory, have led to a design that reduces the curvature and overall length of the cliff passage," Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi wrote.

The new route is expected to offer greater safety guarantees. Plans include a drainage system to manage rainwater and the constant water flow in this mountainous region. Measures will also be taken to enhance soil stability and improve slope management.

Nganou added that to develop the project, the ministry consulted researchers from the University of Dschang, along with several national and international engineering firms and construction companies.

“The validation of execution studies, carried out by a selected company, is a prerequisite for the start of construction work,” the minister stated.
