AFCON 2021 draw: Eto’o’s hand of luck offers Cameroon favorable groups

Samuel Eto’o’s hand of luck has offered Cameron a better spot in the classification for the upcoming African Cup of Nations, AFCON billed for January 9- February 6, 2022.

During the selection of ballots in group A, which Cameroon is leading, Eto’o selection of the

two last team to make group A complete. The legend had the arduous task of selecting the last team in group A after Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba had picked Ethiopia and Cape Verde, a side which has been giving the Indomitable Lions tough times.


Eto’o had to complete group A with a team from pot 2 with heavyweights like Egypt, Ghana,

Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso etc. Eto’o’s hand picked Burkina Faso considered the least feared.


The draws which were conducted by CAF on Tuesday August 17, 2021 in Yaounde will see team Cameroon to take on Burkina Faso in


the opening game on January 9, 2022 at the Olembe stadium. Teams like Comoros and Gambia are making their debuts at Africa's biggest tournament for the first time, while Sierra Leone return for the first time since 1996. The defending champions, Algeria begin the defence of their title against Sierra Leone while they were also drawn along- side Equatorial Guinea and two-time winners Côte d’Ivoire.


Early this morning Eto’o tweeted ”It was amazing to be in Cameroon and doing the draw for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations! It’s going to be an exciting competition and I can’t wait for kick off in January 2022. Who will you be supporting?’’
