Cameroonian have expressed extremely joy following pre-enrollment secure identification system launched by the Ministry of National Security (DGSN) today Monday, February 17, 2025.
The procedure for obtaining a National Identity Card (CNI) has become simpler and efficient. Cameroonians can now apply online and pay the sum FCFA 10,000 fee via mobile money services.
Once they have received their payment receipt, the applicant will have to go to an identification post to finalise the application. The identity card will then be issued within 48 hours.
Step to obtain ID Card
Obtain a receipt issued by the tax authorities. Go to a local identification post with your birth certificate, proof of occupation and payment receipt. After 48 hours, you will receive your new ID card, valid for 15 years instead of 10 years as before.
According to the DGSN, the new identity card will have enhanced security features, Its validity period, extended to 15 years, will enable citizens to reduce the frequency of their administrative procedures.
Martin Mbarga said physical enrollments at identification offices in all regional capitals will begin on Monday February 24, with national identity cards (CNIs) issued “within a maximum of 48 hours,” he assured, suggesting some applicants might receive them sooner.
Nguele added that processing and production of CNIs in the new format are underway for those with receipts under the old system, provided their records are in order.
They should receive their cards by Feb. 17, 2026. It should be noted that, in May 13, 2024 the government contracted the German-Portuguese consortium INCM-Augentic to produce CNIs within 24 hours.
An agreement was signed to that effect in Yaounde between the DGSN and the consortium. Nguele also addressed multiple identity problems.
