Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) has cautioned political parties against the unauthorised use of its logo in voter registration awareness campaigns. The electoral body announced on its radio program, Fréquence ELECAM on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
According to ELECAM’s communication and public relations department, "The graphic charter is a key element of ELECAM’s visual identity”,
“If used improperly or without authorisation, it can harm the institution’s credibility and weaken citizens’ trust in the electoral process."
“Therefore, "preserving the charter is crucial for an organization like ELECAM," officials say.
They warned that lack of strict oversight could lead to malicious misuse of the logo, particularly in disinformation campaigns.
The electoral body also voiced concerns that false information would likely spread widely during this election year, which includes a presidential vote scheduled for October 2025.
In anticipation of these risks, ELECAM reported that it has initiated fact-checking efforts on social media platforms to identify misleading content and maintain transparency throughout the electoral process.
The institution's warning follows an incident where a political party poster featuring ELECAM logo and letterhead was intercepted.
The identity of the political group was not disclosed. For several months, parties intending to challenge the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) candidate in the upcoming presidential election have intensified their voter registration campaigns.
While ELECAM affirmed its support for these citizen mobilisation efforts, it reminded all political entities that the use of its visual elements, especially its logo, requires prior authorization.
