In the lead-up to the 2025 presidential election, Cameroon's political landscape is witnessing a new vision articulated by candidate Shewa David Damuel.

An entrepreneur from Akwaja-Berabe in the North-West Region, Damuel has officially declared his intention to contest for the highest office in the land, emphasizing a transformative agenda rooted in federalism, national unity, and socio-economic development.

Damuel’s platform advocates for a radical restructuring of Cameroon’s political framework into a two-state federation comprising 17 federated states—five from Southern Cameroon and twelve from French Cameroon.

His proposed flag design features two large golden stars and 17 smaller stars on a red stripe, symbolizing unity and regional representation. The candidate envisions a government with two prime ministers: one serving as Head of Government and Vice President, and the other overseeing the implementation of public investment projects.

A key aspect of Damuel’s vision is the abolition of the Senate, which he criticizes as a costly institution with limited significance, proposing instead to allocate resources toward empowering young Cameroonians through agricultural loans.

The National Assembly would be expanded to 360 members, representing all subdivisions, to enhance local representation.

Economically, Damuel aims to position Cameroon as a regional hub, akin to Cotonou, by reducing customs duties on imported vehicles to stimulate revenue and trade.

His infrastructure plans include operationalizing the Limbe seaport within six months and constructing the Mechum hydroelectric dam in ten months to bolster energy supply.

Additionally, he plans to refine domestic fuel and lubricants, reducing prices significantly, which he believes will lower transportation costs and improve the standard of living.

Damuel’s social initiatives include lowering the prices of essential goods such as cement, beer, and juice, as well as increasing salaries across sectors.

He also proposes tax exemptions for small-scale traders and motorcycle riders, alongside inviting international companies to invest with zero taxes to create jobs and boost local industries. In the realm of sports, Damuel emphasizes the importance of a politics-free environment for football development.

He proposes dissolving FECAFOOT, establishing an apolitical and financially autonomous federation, and ensuring players receive timely compensation. He also seeks to promote inter-village and regional sports competitions to nurture talent.

A notable aspect of his campaign is his stance on national reconciliation and peace, advocating for forgiveness and rejection of tribalism as foundational principles for nation-building. Damuel’s leadership vision underscores unity, development, and economic empowerment, aiming to transform Cameroon into a prosperous and peaceful nation.

As the 2025 elections approach, Cameroonians will observe whether Damuel’s ambitious federalist and developmental agenda resonates with the electorate seeking substantial change and national cohesion.
