The 2025 edition of the Ndame Island cultural festival shall hold from February 27-28 at Wovia behind LINAFI school and March 1, 2025 at Ndame Island in Limbe II Subdivision. The festival is tagged “Maloko Ma Ewokedene cultural festival”.
The Ndame Island cultural festival is annual gathering of the Ndame Island Sons and Daughters to unite the Ndame Island through culture.
Activities shall include; canoe race, swimming, deep sea diving, traditional wrestling, traditional parade Miss Ndame, arts and crafts exhibition among others.
The Ndame indigenes are the people who settled on the islands along the coast of Victoria, from Limbe III through Limbe I to Limbe II Subdivisions, respectively.
According to HRH Chief Osward Njombo Ekomboni I, the Chief of Ndame Island, the cultural festival is aimed at strengthening the bond between the natives of the Wovia clan and to preserve disappearing aspects of their culture such as the language, traditions, ancestral meals, fishing, traditional sports and dances.
“Come discover the culture and tradition of the people of Ndame and history as the indigenous tribe of Limbe which bravely resisted slave trade and colonization.” Chief Osward Njombo said.
“It’s good to identify what your forefathers gave you, we have started going back to the root, so we are calling on everyone to go back to the root”,
“If we go back to the root, we’ll realized the rich culture of Cameroon as we say Cameroon is Africa Miniature”Chief Osward Njombo explained.
Chief Osward Njombo urged the population of Wovia clan, Limbe II, Limbe municipality, South West Region and Cameroon in general to come out massively to see the hind talents of the Sons and Daughters of Ndame.
It should be noted that HRH Chief Osward Njombo initiative the idea of this cultural festival last year to revive the Ewokendene games in his chiefdom.
