2023|Idenau's councillors settled for FCFA 899 million council budget

BY SIMON NDIVE KALLA The Mayor of Idenau Council in the West Coast vicinity Tonde Lifanje Gabriel says the Council will run on a budget of FCFA 899, 876,298 with slightly increase of FCFA 50, 000 higher than that of 2022 financial year. He explained because of subsidies received from the State which has dropped. He made this revelation on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 during the 2022 ordinary session for the examination and adoption of the 2023 draft budget of the Idenau Council held at Bakingili Community Hall. “We are expected to exploit all avenues to set the rhythm of the best melody that shall give political, public engagement and aspiration to boost and hence foster a more harmonious and coherent development in the municipality.” “We are called to make a change in this municipality, a time to summon a new spirit of patriotism of service and responsibility where each person has resolve to pitch in and work harder to fulfill the expectation of our population”. Tonde Lifanje Gabriel said. The Mayor however cited some successful realisation in 2022 Council and public investment like; completion of the concreting of the road from opposite National road No. 3 mill to Bibunde, construction of 8 bore holes in the municipality that is in Bakingili, Bibunde and Sanje respectively, Construction of 12 lock-up stores in Idenau town, Grading and construction of 3 lock-up store at heavy duty park, the construction of the slaughter house in Idenau, distribution of some equipment to farmers in the municipality. Among others. Tonde Lifanje equally highlighted some challenges which which are; decrease in quantity of fish catch due to unauthorised finishing trollers and climate change, complete drop in revenue from Eru(Onassis)market, lack of adequate facilities for the real take off on the touristic sector among others. Tonde explained that his main focus on 2023 shall be reinforcement and close collaboration with the administration, the forces of Law and order, improve on the water, improve on water supply scheme in all villages of the municipality, improve hygiene and sanitation sector, payment of old bills to taxation, CNPS and contractors, improve on workers salaries and their arrears, construction of grandstand among others. On his part, the supervisory authority of councils in Fako Division, Senior Divisional Officer for Fako Division, SDO Chaibou urged the councillors and Mayor to create more venues for revenue so as to boost the economy of the municipality. He equally urged the Mayor to put the interest of the municipality first.
