The Federal Council of the National Federation of University Sports (FENASU) met on Wednesday 29, January 2025 at the Cameroon University’s Network and Digital Development Center (RIC) Yaounde, Cameroon.
Speaking during the meeting, the President of the Federal Council, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo said the change in format, with the introduction of the Zonal University Championships (CHAZU) and National Finals of University Games(FINAJU) will make it possible to better identify talents, reduce logistical and financial constraints, and stimulate the engagement of higher education institutions, including those in more remote areas.
This session takes place in the context of a profound change in university sports in Cameroon. After a quarter century of national competitions in a single format, the University Games now consist of two phases the Zonal University Championships (CHAZU) and the National Finals of University Games (FINAJU).
The logical advantage of this new formula is gain in terms of attraction, competitiveness and inclusion, in accordance with the national guidelines and the policy for promoting sports and togetherness advocated by President Paul Biya.
The work of this session included a review of the various 2024 annual reports, the 2025 projects and the state of preparations of the Zonal University Championships (CHAZU) with a view to their adoption and signature, by incorporating members' comments.
As part of the new formula for organizing the University Games by zone, the outlook for 2025 as presented by the national executive board has as their leitmotiv, the launch of the first CHAZU during the period from 24 to 27 April 2025 at the University of Dschang, Zone D.
“This gathering of the University Community through CHAZU will serve as a framework for the implementing the new paradigm of the University-Business, through the development by students, of the Small and Medium enterprises in a spirit of peace, and inclusion”, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo
explained.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Mouelle Kombi, Vice-President of the Federal Council as well as the Secretaries-General of the Ministries of Higher Education, and of Sports and Physical Education, the Rectors and Vice-Chancellors of State Universities, representatives of MINAS and MINJEC, the heads of public university institutions with special status and those of private higher education institutions among others.
