New City project in Bimbia: LCC Mayor, MAETUR GM say it will solve decongestion, generate revenue

The Limbe City Mayor, Paul Efome L.M Ngale and the General Manager of Urban and Rural Development and Equipment and Authority, MAETUR say the extension of Limbe City to Bimbia will reduce congestion in Limbe and generate more revenue for the State.

They made this revelation on Saturday January 21, 2023 duration feasibility study of the New Limbe City in Limbe III Subdivision Bimbia.

Speaking during the event, the Limbe City Mayor, Paul Efome L.M Ngale said as shepherd of LCC he thought it wise he and his team to sell the three in one projects that is; the Limbe Left Bank maritime project, which he opined has to continue because of the developmental and transformative aspect in Down Beach and the urban master plan of Down Beach.

“Also the extension of New Limbe which will be in Bimbia. You know Limbe has been experiencing too much congestion these days because of the population influx of Limbe,

“So, I think that if we extend Limbe to Bimbia, there will be less congestion in the City of Limbe and it will also facilitate the road from Tiko-Douala through Bimbia to enter the town.”Paul Efome explained.

He added that with the coming of the Limbe deep seaport it is going to help solve the problem of traffic congestion in Limbe.

Paul Efome, opined that with this project there will be no challenge of drainage and demarcation of the site, that is Hospitals, play ground among others.

Limbe City Mayor thanked the Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute for taking too much interest of the project by sending commission members for feasibility study of the project. He opined the project will be a good one.

“The project is all about the extension of Limbe because Limbe is so much congested now and we need to build a new modern city solve the problem of decongestion. You know with the influx of IDPs it has proven that there’s a lot of traffic in town. It shows that in the nearest future it will be worst.”Paul Efome explained.

Quizzed on the challenges encountered during the field work tour, he said they observed small changes which he is optimistic that when discussed during the evaluation meeting it will be handled.

In his intervention, the General Manager of Urban and Rural Development and Equipment and Authority, MAETUR, Manga Louis Roger said the reason the delegation sent by the Head of Government was to visit the project site and evaluate if the project can be of benefit to the population.

He explained that from Mondoli Village is embark 5 hectares, sand-sand Beach Bimbia 33 hectares and Mabeta which is expected the extension of the New City of Limbe 650 hectares but they are to begin with 200 hectares for a start.

Quick on the time frame of the project, he said the New City of Limbe is still at the maturation stage.

Background information between LCC and MAETUR partnership

Limbe City Council and the Urban and Rural Land Development and Equipment Authority, MAETUR on Wednesday September 28, 2022 signed a partnership agreement to combine their efforts for the development of Limbe Municipality.

The partnership agreement between the two entities basically dwells on the realisation of giant urban land development and infrastructural projects capable of plunging the municipality into an irreversible modernity.

With Limbe City being a cosmopolitan city which is facing a lot of challenges as far as urban development and housing infrastructure are concerned.

With the exponential growth in its demography, the City Mayor said it very necessary to think about the future in the spatial organisation in order to properly cope with the many challenges observed in cities in development countries especially Africa.
