The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou, has scored Limbe I Mayor, Mbwaye Eposi Florence pass mark for all her efforts and time put into enable the effective construction of the Limbe I Multipurpose Youth empowerment centre.
He made this remarks of appreciation on Saturday February 2, 2025 during a brief stop in Limbe I municipality to inaugurate the center before heading to Idenau, for the launching of the 59th youth day.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Mounouna, reminded mayors that the construction and equipment of these structures falls within the decentralisation process as it is part of competences transferred to councils and regions.
In this light, he pointed out that the local authorities should take care of these structures in their budget because even the budget put at their disposal like that of MINJEC are part of the budget of decentralisation.
“This is because they can plan not only the construction but maintenance and equipment of the centres”, he noted. “For the mayors, I think it is their duty and am happy to see the Mayor of Limbe I to have achieve this important goal”,
“I am happy to see that the Limbe I Council mayor did everything to realize this and I think she needs my applaud. Thank you, Madam Mayor, and in synergy, we will continue to improve the equipment of this important investment”, the Minister said.
To the youths, main beneficiaries of these centres, Minister Foutsou told them that these centres are their headquarters since they are there for information, orientation, training, social economic integration of young people.
With the youths being the antennas of the national youth observatory, he enjoined them to go to the centres and get their biometric youth card that gives them opportunities to access basic needs at low cost.
“I will like to say that it is not only for the extra-curricular youths, it is also for students as during the afternoons or weekends, the centres are there for curricular activities”, the minister indicated.
“This is important for the social economic integration of young people. School for school now a days is finished and now is school for social economic integration”,
“For that, these centres should be opened to opportunities, have professional projects so that at the end of their school, they can be integrated in the productive society”, he added.
Welcoming the minister, Limbe City mayor Paul Efome and Mbwaye Eposi Florence, opined that the realisation of this centre is a landmark achievement that promises to transform the lives of youths and equally uplift the community as a whole.
While thanking the Minister for his presence and unwavering support, Mayor Mbwaye, said this signifies government’s unwavering commitment to youth development and civic engagement.
To her, the centre stands as a testament of collective commitment to the development and well-being of youths as it is a beacon of hope and opportunities where youths can acquire skills, explore their talents and build a bright future for themselves and community.
“This multi-functional centre for youth promotion is just not a building but it is a hub of innovation, creation and empowerment”, the mayor noted.
Mayor Mbwaye used the opportunity as Oliver Twist to solicit from the Minister a fence round the centre, equipment to update the centre and electrification. “The centre needs the various courts for our youths and more personnel”, she concluded.
